Meet Les Amis du Stade Francais Paris

Date: Saturday 6 April 2013

Time: 10.30 - 11.30 am

Place: Jika Jika*

The BRSC Committee are hosting the Stade Francais Supporters’ Club Committee and travelling party at Jika Jika before the match.

You are very welcome to pop in for a chat and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the respective teams. Please support this event if you are able to join us – we do not often have the opportunity to welcome a French Supporters’ Club to Bath, as few French fans seem to travel to the Rec or anywhere else abroad.

We must thank Lee Mears for making it possible on this occasion.

Hopefully we’ll see you at Jika Jika on Saturday.

“Allez Allez Allez, Bath Bath Bath”

*Just in case you have not been to Jika Jika before, here are all the details:

address: 4a Princes Buildings, George Street, Bath, BA1 2ED

Farewell and Presentation to Brad Davis

Time: 7.00 for 7.30pm

Place: The Rec Clubhouse

Food: None

Admission: Free, but please let us know you are attending (see below)

Non-Members are alse very welcome

When it was announced in early February that Brad Davis was to leave Bath Rugby to progress his coaching career elsewhere, the Club promised that we, the supporters, would have an opportunity to say 'goodbye' properly.  That opportunity has now been arranged by BRSC, with the Club making the Clubhouse available to accommodate as many supporters as possible for the Supporters' Club to make a presentation to Brad and for everyone to recognise and show their appreciation of his efforts over 6 1/2 years.

All Bath supporters are most welcome to come along and say farewell to Brad in person. Admission is free, of course, but please let Tom Sutton know that you plan to attend via so that we can assess the requirements for bar staff.

Please pass this message on to anyone you think might like to attend.

Christmas Quiz

Tuesday 11 December - 7.00 for 7.30pm - Clubhouse

Please note: We're back in the Clubhouse!

The Salamanders - winners by a single point

Thanks to all of those BRSC Members - and other supporters - who made the effort to attend despite the freezing fog, and we hope that all of you enjoyed the Christmas Quiz Night.

Thanks also to Quizmaster Dave Stock for compiling and running a most enjoyable quiz - and congratulations to 'The Salamanders' who emerged as the winners by a single point!

The raffle in aid of our charity Wessex MS Therapy Centre raised a splendid £135. Thank you all for dipping into your pockets.

We would like to thank Bath Rugby for providing the Clubhouse for free.

The Committee are very disappointed that, despite our extensive efforts, not a single player attended - a 'first' in over 10 years of Quiz Night 'history'. Come on Bath Rugby - think of your loyal supporters and do better next time!

Ask The Ref with Spreaders

Spreaders in full flow (photo by James Wain)

Tuesday 20 November - 7.00 for 7.30pm - Main Bar, The Rec Clubhouse

On Tuesday night, former international referee and now the RFU’s Professional Referee Development Manager, Tony Spreadbury, entertained sixty Bath supporters with a virtuoso review of the new IRB Law amendments currently being trialled in the Aviva Premiership.

As ever, ‘Spreaders’ enthusiastic presentation of some quite technical points ensured that everyone present now enjoys a much-improved understanding of what referees are now attempting to do in officiating the ‘game designed for hooligans, played by gentlemen’.

Tony also examined the expanded role of the Television Match Official this season, and convinced the audience that no matter how many camera angles are available it is still not always possible to see clearly what has happened to the ball ! The Supporters’ Club are very grateful to BRSC Honorary Member Tony for his time and for sharing his experiences and insight into refereeing.

2012 Annual Awards Supper

The Winners: Kelvin Brunton, Tom Heathcote, Simon Taylor, Michael Claassens, Ryan Caldwell, and Tom Biggs

Tuesday 21 August 2012

7 for 7.30pm

Bath Rugby Clubhouse

Last night we held our annual Awards Supper in the Clubhouse. The event was kindly sponsored - as last year - by Roman Candles and Silcox Son & Wicks, to whom we are very grateful for their fantastic support in helping to make the evening so successful. Our principal guest was BRSC's latest Honorary Member, Tony Spreadbury, accompanied by Mrs Pippa Spreadbury. The event sold-out yet again, so the future 'new Rec' will definitely need a larger Clubhouse !

Following the same format as last year, we began with a drinks reception in the Premier Lounge, followed by a two-course meal in the Main Bar. David Flatman was our Master of Ceremonies, and provided exactly the right balance of insight and humour, (and forceful control as necessary, just as you'd expect from an England international loosehead prop ! ) throughout the entire evening.

We held a Raffle in aid of our chosen local charity for 2011-12, Bath Mind, with prizes donated by Silcox Son & Wicks; Roman Candles; Wadworth; The Rajpoot; JMS Rugby/John Moore Sports; Nando’s; All Bar One; Wetherspoon’s ‘King of Wessex’; Jika Jika; Bath Rugby Shop; Thatchers; Bath Aqua Glass; Bath Rugby Ticket Office; and members of the Committee. Two special prizes were donated by Club Captain, Stuart Hooper - one of his signed home and away shirts from last season.

The Raffle raised a magnificent £521 for Bath Mind - so a tremendous 'thank you' to all who contributed, and to the players who 'persuaded' people to part with their money.

The Awards Ceremony was, as usual, the highlight of the evening and, based upon your votes the results were:

Try of the Season [The Hamptons International Cup] Winner - Michael Claassens - Home v London Irish on New Year's Day

(Runner-up - Anthony Perenise - Home v Northampton [LV= Cup] on 28 January)

Personality of the Season [The Wincanton Cup] Winner - Tom Biggs (Runners-up - Duncan Bell & David Flatman)

Unsung Hero of the Season [The Helphire Cup] Joint Winners - Ryan Caldwell & Simon Taylor (Runner-up - Ben Skirving)

Young Player of the Season [The Wilts Wholesale Electrical Cup] Winner - Tom Heathcote (Runner-up - Olly Woodburn)

Vince Dyer Memorial Trophy for Player of the Season Winner - Tom Biggs (Runner-up - Francois Louw)

Apart from the winners and runners-up, the other players who joined us were: Stuart Hooper, Lee Mears, and Stephen Donald.

The 'special' award - the Mowbray Woodwards Award for Services to Bath Rugby - (as chosen by the Supporters' Club Committee) was presented to retiring 'Allez-Bath' webmaster, Kelvin Brunton, for his outstanding support to BRSC over many years.

Our thanks are extended to Jim Wain, for again acting as our photographer (his photos will be in the Picture Gallery soon), to Cathy Thatcher for all of her hard work in 'dressing' the Clubhouse and, of course, to our MC. The evening ended with a 'surprise' presentation to David, as he had sadly retired due to injury after the end of last season, so this was the first opportunity we had to mark his time as a Bath player with the traditional Bath Aqua Glass engraved blue glass rugby ball.

"Thanks for the memories, 'Flats' ", on behalf of all Supporters' Club Members.
