The more athletic ones amongst you should come prepared to volunteer to ‘act’ as players to demonstrate Spreaders’ points about the laws relating to rucks and scrums etc., and all should enjoy what will definitely be a most informative and lively evening's entertainment.

An expert panel of Bath Rugby coaches and players, joined by CEO Nick Blofeld, took part in a BRSC World Cup Forum in-between the group and knock-out stages of the 2011 tournament in New Zealand.
Martin Haag and Brad Davis led a multi-national team consisting of Simon Taylor, Michael Claassens, Matt Carraro, and Ross Batty. After a review of the Pool stage results and questions from the audience, each picked his semi-finalists and finalists, before nominating their likely winners.
Only Brad and Matt chose all four successful semi-finalists, and then Brad alone correctly predicted a France v All Blacks final. However, Simon’s prediction of a home triumph means he is still in the game, whilst Brad’s tip for a Gallic victory leaves him on course for a clean sweep of ‘Mystic Meg’ proportions.

This could be your chance to prove that Bath's fans are at least as, if not more, passionate about our team than the most hardcore regular inhabitants of the infamous Shed are about the Cherry & Whites.
This season, Premiership sponsors Aviva are partnering Bath University in a study to scientifically establish which Premiership club has the most devoted and passionate supporters. The research team will visit six matches during the season - starting with Glaws v Bath on Saturday 24 September at Kingsholm - to collect psychological and physiological data from a section of fans of each team. During the games they will measure heart rates, as well as noise, anxiety and testosterone levels. The results will then be released on facebook.com/premiershiprugby and the relevant club's website a few days after each match.
So, if you fancy being a 'guinea pig' Bath supporter at the local derby up at Castle Grim, all you need do to apply is send an e-mail to "avivapremiershipfans@gmail.com" with 'Bath fans' in the title. Remember to give your name, age, address, and a sentence or two explaining why you think you are Bath's most passionate supporter.

Last Wednesday the Supporters’ Club held our Annual Awards Supper in the Rec Clubhouse, kindly sponsored this year by Roman Candles of Bath and Silcox, Son & Wicks, the furnishers of Kingsmead Square. Almost a full XV of players joined the members, along with a table of Bath Rugby’s own staff, as 140 diners enjoyed an excellent meal expertly prepared and served by the team managed by Kirstie Marrs.
The evening was ‘hosted’ on behalf of the BRSC Committee by none other than one of Bath’s favourite sons, former England International and British Lion, Matt Perry. Matt did a superb job in interviewing the various award winners, and orchestrated the whole evening with invaluable support from the BRSC organiser – Emma Sparks. Thanks are also due to Andy and Cathy Thatcher, who gave a lot of their time on the day to ensure that the Clubhouse looked at its best. Last, but not least, we should acknowledge the contribution of Becky Pocock for her ideas and planning skills, and the role of Dean Quintin in managing the operation on the night.
The players’ awards winners for 2010-11 were as follows:
Try of the Season – won by Tom Biggs (one of his hat-trick against Wasps at Twickenham in April), and presented by long-standing supporter, Betty Measday.
Personality of the Season – won by the legendary Danny Grewcock in his last season, and presented by ‘Allez-Bath’ webmaster, Kelvin Brunton.
Unsung Hero of the Season – won by Matt Carraro, and presented by BRSC Treasurer, Erica Edwards.
Young Player of the Season – won by Guy Mercer, and presented by Community Foundation Shirt Raffle stalwart, Hughie Armitage.
Vince Dyer Memorial Trophy for Player of the Season – won by Michael Claassens, and presented by Doreen Dyer.
Other players joining in the celebrations were Nick Abendanon, Olly Barkley, Ross Batty, Nathan Catt, Pieter Dixon, Mark Lilley, Ben Skirving, and birthday boy Simon Taylor. Led by the ‘wouldn’t take no for an answer’ Mark Lilley, and the rather more charming Michael Claassens, they all did a splendid job encouraging people to buy tickets for the raffle, which raised £350 for Dorothy House Hospice.
The last piece of ‘business’ for the evening was the presentation by Robin Phillips of the Mowbray Woodward Award for Services to Bath Rugby to the well-deserved winner for 2010-11 - Dave White.
Dave has been a member of the Supporter’s Club since its inception, and also served a term as Chairman. He is a regular traveller to away matches and you are just as likely to bump into him in Biarritz and Belfast as you are in Leicester or Leeds. However, it is as a matchday collector for the Community Foundation that put him squarely into the frame for this award. Over many years, and in all kinds of weather, he has sold Shirt Raffle Tickets week-in and week-out with great success until he decided to hang up his book and pen at the end of last season. Congratulations, Dave !
Whilst a really good time was had by all at last night's Awards Supper (full report to follow) several 'players' were apparently 'kidnapped' at the end of the evening - and Dean would like them back, please.
The table markers in the shape of playing kit were specially made to order and cost over £25 each. One or two over-enthusiastic diners seem to have - inadvertently, no doubt - given a new home to the markers from tables 5, 7, 10 and 14.
Their safe return would be much appreciated - otherwise the Supporters' Club will have to stump up the money to allow Bath Rugby to sign some replacements for the new season, and our salary cap is all accounted for at this time !
There will be no ransom paid, so if you hold one of the hostages please either hand the item in to Dean Quintin at the Clubhouse or to a BRSC Committee member at the Supporters' Club desk at the next match.
At the Awards Supper last night, two people each won a raffle prize of a case of 6X ale, kindly donated by Wadworth of Devizes.

Hi - my name is Dan Bowers. I am a psychologist and researcher at the University of Glamorgan. We are currently conducting some research looking at rugby and other sports fans. We are particularly interested in how important being a supporter is to people and the addictive nature of being a supporter.
We have devised a survey looking at these ideas (amongst others!) and I am very much hoping that Bath Rugby supporters will be able to help us out. We have already done this very successfully with rugby clubs in the Welsh Premiership and the Cardiff Devils ice hockey club.
The survey we have created is brand new and as such we are looking to get thousands of responses to validate it. It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete and will hopefully be very interesting for the people who fill it in! I've copied the link in below for you to have a look at.

Bath Rugby Supporters’ Club will be holding its fifteenth Annual General Meeting on Tuesday May 24th at 8pm in the Illustrious Suite of the Hamptons Stand at The Recreation Ground.
The AGM will be preceded by a post season round up from Nick Blofeld. Nick’s presentation will commence at 7:30pm with doors and the bar opening at 7pm.
The current committee stands at 7 members owing to a number of resignations throughout the season. Vacant roles are the Treasurer and Events. All of the present Committee are prepared to continue with the Chairman, Secretary and Membership posts all being in the middle of their terms of office.
Any Agenda items for consideration at the meeting should be notified to the Secretary not less than 7 days before the date of the meeting, that is by the 17th of May.

Radio Bristol are not covering the Newcastle v Bath match this Saturday due to "staff shortages", so there will not be the usual commentary service provided by Andrew Sheridan.
Radio Newcastle will be broadcasting from the game, however, and their coverage can be followed online. The BRSC Press Officer, Glyn Edwards, will be providing a Bath fan's perspective throughout the match for the benefit of Bath supporters as part of the Radio Newcastle programme.
The BRSC Committee have received the following information from Gary Edwards:
I'm the person who has taken over the arrangements for the Bath end of the above event, formerly called the 'Moz Memorial Match', which you will probably have heard of, and I don't know why it never occured to me before to contact BRSC about this event.
My purpose in making contact now is to request some help for this year - as you might know we are playing the match after the Newcastle Falcons match on May 7th, kick off at about 6pm, as there is a mini/junior event on straight after the main match and some on-pitch end of season awards presentations.
The game this year is in honour of Jessica Maggs, the daughter of Bath and Bristol legend Kevin (and wife Jayne), who tragically died earlier this year at such a young age. The charity supported is Charlton Farm Children's Hospice, part of the Children's Hospice South West, that cared for Jessica.
The Club have been great in their support for the event, and my request is just to do what the committee can to publicise our event and the cause. The webpage for donations is:

As requested, please can the earlier post on Allez Bath be taken down. It was never the intention to advertise on the web site that we are launching the kit on Thursday, as this is simply not the case and was never communicated as such. We asked you initially to see if you had 10-20 people that you know who would want to be in the shoot we are doing, never that there should be a post on the web site to invite as many people as possible.
Everybody who attends on Thursday will be asked to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements to ensure that there is no leakage of the new kits before the official launch date later in the year. As fans of Bath I'm sure you can all appreciate the need to do a successful kit launch in the correct manner.
We very much appreciate BRSC's help with this, but didn't want to create a large interest and then disappoint the fans when they turn up, as we are not actually launching the shirt on Thursday.
With this in mind could you please add to the website that the activity on Thursday morning is for a creative shoot and not for a kit launch, and that there will be no kit on show to see.
I hope that this will go some way to avoiding any disappointment on the day.

Chris Palmer writes: "The first part of our challenge will take us from Keynsham near Bristol to Bath and the Recreation Ground for the Bath vs Harlequins rugby game. We will then leave the game and make our way over 4 days to Reading.
With our great knowledge of canoeing...(none whatsoever) we imagined that covering the 87 miles from Keynsham to Reading in a canoe over 4 days would be 'a bit easy'. Therefore we have decided that we are going to walk the distance pulling a canoe behind us on a modified trolley...
On reaching Reading we are going to put the canoe in the Thames and paddle the remaining 70 odd miles to central London where we will disembark and make our way to Chiswick to spend the night at Oli's before heading to Twickenham to watch Bath play London Wasps in the St.Georges Day game which last year supported Help for Heroes.
“Why not canoe the whole thing?” I hear you say. The reason for this is simply that we wanted to make it more of a challenge and we believed that pulling 100 kilos of weight behind us for 87 miles would be just that.
We will be leaving Keynsham on the 16th April and finishing at Twickenham on the 23rd April.

Many thanks to all of you who attended what turned out to be a very successful and enjoyable Awards Supper. We were fortunate to be able to read out an email from Julian Salvi expressing his delight at being awarded the Vince Dyer Trophy. Thank you to the players who attended, Jimmy Deane for being guest speaker, although we did get him along on false pretences, Dean, Kirsty and the staff for their hard work and a great meal, the sponsors of the various awards, Glyn for being an entertaining MC and Kate Dale for her work behind the scenes.
Unfortunately, the new season membership badges have not yet arrived, so will be unavailable for collection at either the friendy match today, or at the Awards supper next week. I am still holding out hope for them being available at the AGM. The badge company have held up their hands and taken responsibility for the delay, and are going to compensate the Supporters' Club for the extra costs involved in sending out more badges by post than we would do normally. It is anticipated that sufficient nominations will have been received to fill all the posts for Committee Officers and Members; the AGM will be invited to endorse the nominations. In order to save money on postage costs, it is anticipated that new season membership cards and badges will be available to pick up at the Rec on the following occasions:
Friday August 6th, at the Final of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series, from 6 pm until kick-off.
Saturday August 21st, at the Friendly against Edinburgh, and at the Family Fun Day afterwards, from 12 midday until kick-off, and then from 3 pm until 6 pm.
Tuesday August 24th, at the Annual Awards Supper (cards/badges will only be brought along for members attending the supper, and it will not be possible to deal with applications at the supper).
Monday September 6th, prior to the AGM.
After 6th September, any uncollected cards/badges will be posted out as normal. I will also be available to process renewal and new applications on the above occasions. All standing order applications will be processed at the start of the season as normal (many thanks to those of you who have already altered your standing order to take account of the new bank details and rates).
Please note that if you have joined the Supporters' Club since April 1st, your membership will cover the 2010/11 season, in addition to the 2009/10 season, and you will get the card and badge for the 2010/11 season without having to fill in another membership application form.
The Casting Collective supply extras for feature films and television programs and we are currently casting for a major new feature film shooting in Castle Combe in September. It will not be everyday but would involve coming to a casting in early August and then if chosen for the film being available for a fitting and then filming days in September. We are looking for a lot of people of all ages.
At this stage we can't divulge too much information about the production, but it will be a major cinema release with a famous Director and is set in World War 1 so all the men involved will need to have 1920's haircuts and all the women need to have shoulder length or longer natural hair (not dyed or highlighted).

Bath Rugby are holding the Bath Rugby Community Foundation ‘Oscars’ on Tuesday 20th July at 7 pm for 7.30 pm at the Guild Hall. Children from all their projects are being nominated for an award for all the hard work they have put into their work. One child will be awarded a trophy from each project with other children receiving medals. They would like as many people as possible to attend the event. All our coaches are full and there will be no more run by the Supporters' Club for this trip.

The Dave Barnes Testimonial Race Night proved to be a great success. We suffered a minor technical hitch part of the way through the evening, but Barnesey showed he is as skilled off the pitch as he is on it by helping us rectify the problem.
Thanks to Dave Barnes, Duncan Bell, Matt Carraro and Guy Mercer for attending, their participation helped to make the evening the success it was.
Kirsty and the staff in the clubhouse worked hard, as usual, to make sure everything went smoothly, our thanks to them.
We are grateful to Bath Rugby, Sam Wellers, Abbey Ales, The Old Green Tree, IPL, Jonquil Florists, Stones Coaches, The Riverside Cafe and Blackthorn for their sponsorship.
The owners of the winning horses received a prize, donated by the sponsors, a certificate signed by Dave Barnes and a Forever Friends NICU bear ( see picture gallery ).
At the end of the evening we auctioned a NICU bear, signed by the players who attended, for the grand sum of £46.
Thanks to all those who helped with the organization of the evening and a special thanks to Kate Dale for her work behind the scenes.
The proceeds from the evening were added to those from Stocky's Sports Quiz, which we held in March,and together with a generous donation from Barnesey, the total for the Forever Friends Appeal came to £1000.

Emma Sparks,a fervant Bath Rugby Supporter, is in the process of putting together a charity recipe book with the proceeds going to Dorothy House Hospice. So far, she has received very few recipes and is hoping that this request will bring in many more from Bath Rugby fans. "It is quite rare to meet someone for the first time and to be greeted with a warm smile and genuine interest...but that was Penny Brunton for you. As Chairman of the Bath Rugby Supporters' Club Committee she mixed her vast knowledge of Bath Rugby with a blend of authoritativeness and a chuckle. Her love for Bath Rugby was unquestionable; her honesty and dedication for the well being of its supporters undeniable.
Just ten days ago and despite being desperately ill, Penny spent an hour on the phone to me checking that I had sent out "that letter" I had promised to post and that I hadn't forgotten to plan for a Race Night! Such was her dedication Her enthusiasm and generosity spread beyond the game of rugby as she ensured that those less needy than ourselves benefitted from the many charities the Supporters' Club sponsored. A member of the Committee since its inception, a tireless campaigner to keep rugby at the Rec and latterly a strong hand on the tiller guiding the Committee to do its best for it's members, she will be a very hard act to follow. Penny was a "one off" and a very courageous lady too. The Bath Rugby Supporters' Club Committee send their deepest condolences to her husband Kelvin and her 3 sons. We will all miss this very remarkable lady deeply."

It's with great sorrow that we have to announce the death of Penny Brunton on 1st January 2010 after a prolonged struggle with Cancer. She was Hon Sec from conception of the Supporters' Club and Chairman since 2007 and will be sorely missed by family, friends and fellow Bath Rugby supporters.

In view of the recent tsunami that has affected the island of Samoa, it has been decided that all proceeds from Sunday's raffle shall go towards the Appeal. We are therefore raffling the signed shirt of Bath's Samoan international, Jonny Fa'amatuainu.

It is with the utmost regret that we announce the death of dear friend and life-long Bath supporter, Sue Guscott. Sue died on Saturday evening, 10th October.
Sincerest condolences to husband Henry, sons Gary and Jeremy and, of course, her beloved grandchildren.
The funeral will take place at 2.30pm at St. Saviour's Church in Larkhall, Bath on Monday, 19th October 2009.

Thank you to everyone who sat down to dine with fellow supporters and players for one of the most successful suppers the BRSC has held for a while. The evening was a sell-out and went with a swing.

Guest speaker, Bob Calleja, gave a most entertaining speech and then was silenced when he was presented with the Mowbray Woodwards Award for Outstanding Service to Bath Rugby. Congratulations, Bob - well deserved.
The evening was expertly MC'd by Barry Cleeve and all the arrangements had been made by Penny Dale. Sincere thanks to them and everyone involved.

Over 100 people attended the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Supporters' Club. The evening kicked off with Bob Calleja giving a brief Rec update, before Steve Meehan introduced members to new signings Davey Wilson, Ben Skirving, Matt Carraro, Nicky Little, Julian Salvi and, of course, Olly Barkley. Many thanks to them for coming along and answering questions.
The AGM proper started at 8.25pm. Mike Senior chaired the meeting, as Chairman, Penny Brunton was acting as Hon Sec. Following the Chairman's, Membership Secretary's and Treasurer's reports, the winners of the players' awards were announced as follows:

In a slight change from tradition and to cater for player availability, the BRSC will be holding their AGM on Tuesday, 18th August, and the Players' Awards Supper on Tuesday, 25th August 2009. Despite these dates being in the middle of the holiday season, we are hoping for a good turnout.
Steve Meehan will be introducing supporters to the new signings at 7.30pm on the 18th, prior to the start of the AGM. Don't miss it!

There will be a public meeting regarding the land swap proposal of the Firs Field to fall under the jurisdiction of the Charity Commission in lieu of the additional area of the Recreation Ground required to enhance Bath Rugby's facilities in the centre of Bath.
This meeting is being organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council and is open to local residents only. Please try to attend (and take your neighbours along) to find out more.
Abbey Ales already offer discounts to Supporters' Club members and are now helping to raise funds for one of the BRSC's chosen charities. See Link for details.
We are looking to put forward a package to Paris for the Heineken Cup against Stade Francais.
The package to include coach from Bath to London, Eurostar to Paris, Hotel in Paris and return to Bath.
After making enquiries with Eurostar we would require names of interested parties prior to making a reservation.

With apologies for the delay in notification (Broad band connection temporarily lost), for those of you who do not already know, the Real Friends EGM at Bath Golf Club due to take place this evening has been cancelled. This is owing to the ongoing negotiations between the Trustees and the Charity Commission regarding the land swap. The new date will be advised in due course.
A big thank you to Jimmy Deane and team for a most enjoyable evening in the Clubhouse last night (2nd June). Despite the low attendance figures, there was a really good presentation of where the money raised via the shirt raffles and other sponsors is spent. It was a relief to learn of all the positive things that are being done by the Foundation to counter all the bad press that Bath Rugby has had to suffer in recent weeks. See Link, provided by Pam Burke.
With great regret, we now know the names of the players who have been under investigation for the past few weeks. Sadly, Michael Lipman, Alex Crockett and Andrew Higgins have felt it necessary to resign from the Club and will now fight to clear their names. The RFU is currently conducting its own investigation and will publish the outcome within the next seven days - and so the waiting continues.
As supporters, we must move on - hope that fences can be mended, Bath Rugby can remain at the top of the Premiership and concentrate on redevelopment of the Rec. We have supported this great Club through thick and thin and shall continue to do so.
A black tie dinner will be held in the Clubhouse on Friday, 12th June, starting with a reception in the Premier Bar from 7.00pm, followed by a 5-course meal. Cost £50 per head.
There will be a raffle and auction of sports memorabilia. Guest speaker - John Parrott MBE. All proceeds from the evening will be split between the Tamara Johnson Fund and the fund set up for snooker player, Paul Hunter.

Message to Combe Down Residents in particular: If you have not already signed up to the Real Friends of the Rec, please be aware that an EGM is to be held at the Bath Golf Club on Tuesday, 16th June at 7.30pm to discuss Bath Rugby's future at the Rec and the benefits of a possible land swap of the Firs Field.
Until Bath Rugby is able to issue definite news, the rumours and counter-rumours are totally unproductive. What is needed is our support of our favourite club and the players, all of whom are being tarnished by unpalatable gossip.

This trip is always a very difficult one to try to organise - Friday evening – M4/M5/M6! However, we are now happy to announce that we shall definitely be running a coach to this fixture. The Night before Bristol on Friday, 6th March was a tremendous success and we should like to thank David Trick and Ollie Redman for a truly entertaining evening. We were thrilled to be able to welcome Tamara Johnson, making her first “public” appearance since suffering her appalling neck injury in February last year. The raffle of a rugby ball, signed by the Bath Rugby squad, raised a magnificent £350 to be paid into Tam’s Fund. This dynamic duo have offered to do a repeat performance for us so, if you weren’t able to get there on Friday, you will have another chance in the future. Next time, don’t miss it.

The BRSC was sad to learn of the sudden death of Steve Smith, a long time BRSC member and longer time Bath Rugby supporter and season ticket holder.

Sadly my Dad passed away on Monday, 9th February 2009, after a very short illness.
My Dad was a Bath Rugby Supporter for many years and up to a few years ago used to travel to all the away matches on the Supporters' Club Coaches, so I believe there would be several people who would remember him. We should like to thank all those who attended the event last night. We had a good turnout, despite the weather and the fact it clashed with an England game of footie!
Thank you to Mark Bakewell and Brad Davis for telling us about their take on the season so far and the effect the ELVs are having on the game. Daniel Browne, Pieter Dixon and Shaun Berne then picked up on the differences between the Tri Nations and the Six Nations (and, specifically, about the England coaching methods). Photos are now in the Picture Gallery.
In response to the statement issued by Bob Calleja, Chief Executive Officer of Bath Rugby, the Supporters’ Club remains firmly in support of the aims of Bath Rugby to improve the facilities at The Rec. This was clearly demonstrated by the BRSC's contribution and input during the course of the Strategic Review over two years ago.
In the current financial climate and whilst negotiations with the Charity Commission are still ongoing, we feel that a further two-year extension to the lease for the ground under the East Stand is a reasonable request. The Club needs to be planning now for next season. We also appreciate that this should not preclude the Club from exploring other options but this should not be seen as a weakness in the Club’s resolve to find a solution to being able to continue to play at The Rec and protect the integrity of the pitch.
The Charity Commission is looking to the longer term, as is the Club. An enhancement of The Rec and its availability to other users would be an advantage to the benefactors of the Covenant (i e, the citizens of Bath) and not a detriment.
Don't forget that we shall have a chance to ask Mark Bakewell and Brad Davis of their perspective on Bath's season to date. Daniel Browne, Shaun Berne and Pieter Dixon will also be on hand to comment on how the Tri Nations competition compares or contrasts with the Six Nations tournament.

Many column inches have been written; radio and television have given full coverage. Whilst we are all entitled to our own opinions, suffice to say that the news has come as a considerable shock and great disappointment abounds. Officially, the BRSC does not feel further comment should be forthcoming until all the necessary enquiries have been completed and the authorities have made their decision.

A big thank you to Dave Stock for yet another highly entertaining quiz, which stretched the little grey cells. Despite a slight lack of numbers, the atmosphere was tremendous and the supper excellent.
We were joined by players Stuart Hooper, Scott Bemand, Scott Hobson and Jamie Currie. Thank you to everyone who attended and to all those who contributed.
The eventual winners were "June's Understudies", comprising Hamish Burnham, Penny Lewis and Bob Northam. They were presented with small individual shields and the Barry Clough Memorial Shield, which currently resides in the BRSC trophy cabinet in the Clubhouse.

Despite a relatively low turnout, those who did attend spent a most pleasant evening, with Ben Williams and Andy Higgins available to apply the make up and Danny Grewcock and Alex Crockett on hand to sell the raffle tickets! The amount raised for the Tamara Johnson Fund was in excess of £150. Thank you to the players, the stallholders and to those ladies who came along. Our thanks go to Bath and England prop, Duncan Bell, for calling the numbers at a most successful bingo evening in the Clubhouse last week. Everyone enjoyed the experience, although we gather that a number of participants were as ‘green’ about bingo as the majority of the Committee! The entrance fee included the cost of food and a donation to the Royal British Legion (who loaned us the equipment) but not the cost of the bingo cards. So, we apologise for not covering this in our advertising and have made a big note to ourselves that we “must do better”.

The Committee has been running rather differently from usual for the last month or so since we have been without our chairman, Penny Brunton, at the helm.
Whilst we have coped pretty well considering, we hope that you will understand why some things may have been running a bit slowly around here.
Penny has been diagnosed with cancer recently and had an operation to remove the nasty bits (without wanting to go into too much detail.) She is doing amazingly well, all things considered, and stays in constant good humour whilst she waits to hear the next steps. She is now back at home but not quite yet ready to face trips out or down to the Rec (as much as she would like to!!).
We, the committee, hope that you will join us in wishing Penny the speediest of recoveries.

On Wednesday night, Tony Spreadbury gave over 100 Bath supporters an enlightening update on the ELVs. He kept his audience in thrall for over 2 hours. Now we all know what these Law variations are all about! There are now pictures in the Picture Gallery, showing Spreaders; his audience; binding (or not) at the back of the scrum; protecting the ball and preventing it coming out; and Penny says thanks.
Not long to go now until Bath kicks off its Heineken Cup campaign in France.

We will have had time to see what impact the Experimental Law Variations have had on the new Premiership season, so make sure you have plenty of questions to ask him!
Another successful evening, ably hosted by Barry Cleeve. Photographs of the award winners are in the Picture Gallery on this site. All these trophies are now displayed in the new cabinet in the Clubhouse.
What was not disclosed on the evening was the nature of the mementoes given to each of the players. Michael Claassens, Player of the Season, received a decanter; Matt Banahan received a hip flask for being Young Player of the Season and a tankard for his Try of the Season; Peter Short, the Unsung Hero, received a tankard and, Ladies' Dish, Danny Grewcock (via Michael Stephenson) received a hip flask.
Nina Rogers, the recipient of the Mowbray Woodwards Award for Outstanding Services to Bath Rugby, received a cut-glass decanter and four wine glasses. Sadly, this also served as a farewell present to Nina, who after 12 years of hard graft, has now left the Club. She will be sadly missed.
Jimmy Deane, who heads the Community Development Foundation, was the guest speaker and gave an enlightening talk about his work with the Foundation, his coaching of the Bath Ladies' Team and an update on the progress of Ladies' No. 8, Tamara Johnson.

Despite a somewhat disappointing turnout, those present were introduced to the Club's new signings - Shontayne Hape, Justin Harrison, Stuart Hooper, Scott Bemand and Robbie Kydd. The assembled audience had an opportunity to ask a few searching questions before they departed and Steve Meehan gave a quick lowdown on the season to come, the ELVs, the new captains and the injury list - bad news that Danny is out for two months with a bicep injury.
Keeping to the Agenda, which included a statement from Bob Calleja regarding the future of the Rec - negotiations still ongoing - we reached the other interesting news - the players' awards! These are as follows:
Player of the Season - Michael Claassens; Young Player of the Season - Matt Banahan; Try of the Season - Matt Banahan v Saracens; Ladies' Dish - Danny Grewcock and Unsung Hero - Peter Short.
All these players will be honoured at the Awards Supper next Wednesday, 3rd September. There are still a few tickets available, so contact Penny Dale and come and join us.

Approximately 35 BRSC members and friends gathered outside the Clubhouse to collect their questionnaires (and gaze in horror at the tents on the pitch!), before setting off to find answers to the clues and ending up at the Boater for a much-needed drink and burger.

We are very sad to announce that Tommy passed away on July 16th. Tommy, who played for Walcot, Bath and Somerset will be remembered at a service in Haycombe Chapel at 2.00pm on Friday, July 25th. Our sincere condolences to Tommy's family

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ann Stanton, last Saturday, shortly before her 94th birthday. Ann had been a season ticket holder for years and a member of the BRSC since inception in 1997. She attended every home game last season. Our sincere condolences to son, Neville.
Neville would like it to be known that the funeral will take place at Urchfont village church, Devizes, on Monday, 14th July at 12 noon. All Bath Rugby supporters welcome.

If you are travelling with the BRSC, please look out for the only three Stones coaches in Great Pulteney Street, which will be numbered 1, 2 and 3. (Hopefully, Bath Rugby will be labelling their coaches from 4 upwards.) Coaches will depart punctually at 9.30am from Pulteney Street and 9.45am from Lambridge (bottom of the 'old' Gloucester Road).

Having been denied, by a single point, a home playoff semi-final, we now face the prospect of an away game against Wasps next Sunday. The BRSC will be running coaches to this but, obviously, have to wait until Monday before details can be put in place. Jan and Mike Warrington are, however, taking names. Watch this space.
We understand that Bath will receive 20% of the ticket allocation and, as Adams Park holds 10,200, we estimate that to be 2,000 (and 40?) available for Bath supporters.
The Bath Ticket Office will be closed to all personal callers, phone callers and emailers on Monday, as they take delivery of the tickets from Wasps and place them into the system. Keep an eye on the Bath Rugby website for details of sales.

We want to develop our ground. We have been pulling out all the stops to lobby the Charity Commission to allow us to extend our facilities at the Rec.

We are sad to announce the untimely death of Robbie Lye, following a heart attack on Saturday morning, 19th April 2008. Our condolences to his widow, Teresa and to the rest of his family.
Calling all supporters who are taking the coaches to Worcester. The pick-up times are 12 noon from Great Pulteney Street and 12.15 from Lambridge. Please be punctual, as we have actually been promised parking at Sixways, provided we get there in good time!
On May 3rd 2008, immediately after the final whistle goes at Bath Rugby’s last home game of the season against Saracens, a team of Bath supporters will run out on the Rec to take on Bristol supporters in the fourth playing of the now annual Moz Memorial Match, aiming to raise £4,000 for Médécin sans Frontières (MSF).
This year the 2008 Bath supporters’ team will unusually feature three separate sets of brothers, as well as an uncle and nephew, all running out in the blue, black and white of Bath. In another first, the match will be played under floodlights, due to the 6.00pm kick-off time for the Bath v Saracens game, a huge contrast from last year’s game, which was bathed in the Easter sunshine.
The Moz Memorial Match is played in memory of Tim ‘Moz’ Morris who died aged only 30 in February 2005. Tim was an avid Bath fan but also took a keen interest in Bristol Rugby Club, sponsoring a player from both teams (Andy Higgins from Bath and Sam Cox from Bristol) and he was a frequent poster on numerous internet rugby boards, where he posted under the name of ‘Moz’.
As a tribute to Tim, Bath and Bristol supporters played the first match at the Recreation Ground on 30 April 2005 and the teams met again in 2006 at the Memorial Ground, before returning to the Rec last year. Speaking after the bruising second encounter, Premiership referee Ashley Rowden, who officiated the game, commented “It’s fantastic to see such fierce rival rugby supporters getting together in this way for such a worthy cause. Tim would have been proud of all of those involved.”
Jim Carter, one of the event organizers, said “Tim was a genuine sports lover and enjoyed rugby because of its fair-play ethos. For once we can genuinely say that this game is about the taking part. Last year’s match was an exciting battle between two well-matched teams and the result was in doubt right up until the final few minutes. The crowd, including ex-England coach, Andy Robinson, were thoroughly entertained by the spirit and quality of the rugby played.”
“We are very grateful to Bath Rugby for all their help in supporting this event and are hoping that our efforts will help to raise another substantial amount of money in Tim’s memory.”
All of the results of the three previous matches have gone Bristol’s way but, more importantly, have also raised over £20,000 for Médécin sans Frontières, which has been used towards a children’s project in Uganda. This is the highest sum the charity has ever received in the name of an individual and there are high hopes that the third game will see the total figure raised in Tim’s memory approach the £25,000 mark.
Admission to the game will be free after the final whistle of Bath’s fixture against Saracens, the Clubhouse bar will remain open throughout the game and both Moz Match teams would welcome any and all vocal support as they get the chance to play on the same pitch as some of their heroes.

Please note the game against Saracens on Saturday the 3rd May will Kick Off at 18:00 on the Rec instead of 14:15.

This has been delayed for two months, in order to be able to include news about the Rec. Surprise, surprise - there is still nothing to tell, although we gather we may have a decision by next week. However, the Newsletter has already gone to press and will be posted out on Thursday, the 6th March.
All proceeds from the raffle this Saturday will go towards the fund set up for injured Bath Ladies No. 8, Tamara Johnson. The shirt up for grabs this week is that of Shaun Berne, with the added bonus of the winner also receiving a shirt signed by Jonny Wilkinson! We would ask you all to dig deep.
Our very best wishes go to Tamara for a speedy recovery.

On behalf of the SOS/iRB Kit Aid, we are writing to say thank you to the Bath Rugby Supporters Club, for their time and effort in supporting SOS on Saturday.
The day would not have been such a success without your endeavours and the support of Bath Rugby. The supporters were great and very interested to find out what we were doing there! You will be pleased to know that we collected the most amount of kit ever (2 x car loads) at a Premiership match. Well done, Bath. We also promoted our cause and made a number of contacts with people, who, in time, may well be donators of kit and further contacts for us to follow up with local Rugby Clubs - everything we were after really!

Over 120 people packed the Clubhouse on Wednesday, 23rd January, to listen to Tony Spreadbury explain the nuances of refereeing Premiership games. He held the audience enthralled for two hours, answering questions and asking questions as he went.

The Bath Rugby Seat Exchange is an official service of the Club, allowing Bath Rugby Season Ticket Holders to sell their seats for matches at The Recreation Ground that they cannot attend and for Season Ticket Holders and Supporters to purchase those additional seats. Season Ticket Holders that are not able to attend the match can now list their seats for sale, and will also, along with fellow Bath supporters, be able to purchase additional tickets available exclusively on the Bath Rugby Seat Exchange, including matches that have sold out.
The service adds significant value for the Club, Season Ticket Holders and Supporters, helping to maximise attendances at The Rec, reward Season Ticket Holders with a re-sale facility and give as many supporters as possible the chance to see Bath Rugby home matches.

Due to an oversight, the October newsletter is only now available on this site. Whilst the BRSC has committed to posting quarterly Newsletters, the January letter has been postponed until there is something to report regarding the Charity Commissions decision on the future of the Rec.

There was plenty of opportunity for Christmas shopping, having a drink and a good old chinwag, to say nothing of asking the players searching questions and playing ‘silly party games’, which Jack Cuthbert won for being the best Christmas angel! Daniel Browne can now add raffle ticket seller supreme to his CV and Ed Jackson and Andy Higgins, despite their misgivings, will be thankful they did not have to stay home and watch a woeful game of football.
Jane Powell, a representative from the Hospice, was on hand to advise about the valuable work being done by the organisation, which relies on private funding and she gave her thanks to the BRSC for holding this fund-raiser.
Thank you again to the players, to Penny and to Em and to Louisa (aka TRG) for acting as MC.
The raffle raised £153 and there is still money coming in from some of the stallholders but we are hopeful that in excess of £300 will go to Children’s Hospice South West to help them in their wonderful work.
Unfortunately, although plenty of pictures were taken, we are having camera problems and the players, at least, will be pleased to know that we do not currently have any available for the Picture Gallery!
We are all looking forward to a good Christmas shopping spree on Wednesday evening. All the proceeds from the event will be going to the Children's Hospice South West.

A great night was had by all who attended our first attempt at a Bingo evening. The presentation that took place at half time on Saturday 15 September was from proceeds of rafffles held on the Bath Rugby Supporters' Coach Travel. A cheque for £1,800 was handed to Jonathan Cooper by one of our staunchest travellers, Ann Finch. Jonathan suffered traumatic brain injury as a result of a car accident in which he was an innocent passenger. After initial treatment at Frenchay and the RUH. Jon was transferred to the Mineral Hospital for rehabilitation. This is where Headway Officers contacted, visited and started the support that has helped both Jonathan and his family come to terms with the life-changing events and to face the challenges to come. It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the death early this morning of Jerry Keeling, founder member and long-time Chairman of the BRSC.
Our sincere condolences to wife, Ula, and to children, Angus, Bruce and Emma.
The BRSC has coach travel in place for both these away matches, arranged by intrepid travel organisers, Jan and Mike Warrington (see earlier item).

The Awards Supper passed off highly successfully last night. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, although sadly, our 'Dish' Joe Maddock, was unable to attend but thank you to Matt Banahan for acting as his double! The BRSC raised a total of £814 for Matt's chosen charity, the Pink Ribbon Foundation, at the Ladies' Night in November and the Race Night in April. He was also presented with a Bath Aqua rugby ball at the last home game of the season. (See Picture Gallery.) We have been proud to support such a great player.
The Club has advertised this as a supporters' evening, not to be confused with a Supporters' Club evening. However, the BRSC will, of course, be represented at the Rec on Thursday.

Bath Rugby Supporters’ Club will be holding its eleventh Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 4th September 2007 at 8.00pm in the Clubhouse at the Recreation Ground.
The AGM will be preceded by a Pre-Season Perspective to be given by the Club’s Coaching Team. This will commence at 7.30pm. Doors and bar will open at 7.00pm.
Please note that three of the current Committee of eleven are not seeking re-election this year and, of these, one is in the ‘named’ position of Honorary Secretary. Of the eight remaining Committee members, all are prepared to continue, including the Membership Secretary, who has completed her two-year stint. The Chairman and Honorary Treasurer have a further year remaining of their two-year terms.
In the July Newsletter, BRSC members were asked to propose and second prospective Committee members. Nominations closed on 20th July 2007. In a departure from the normal procedure of voting at the AGM, all members are now given a chance to vote for the Committee and the necessary form is enclosed with this Notice. (Note: As only one form was included per envelope, members are asked either to make a copy or add columns for other voters in the family.)
Apologies and any Agenda items for consideration at the meeting should be notified to the Honorary Secretary not less than 7 days before the date of the meeting, that is by 28th August 2007.

All BRSC members and Season Ticket Holders have now received their entry forms for this worthwhile competition. For only £20 per season, you stand a chance of winning tickets for a Bath home game; signed Bath Rugby merchandise, including framed shirts and case rugby balls and other special prizes. All proceeds are donated to the Bath Rugby Community Foundation and used to fund community projects involving young people in the region.
The draw takes place at half-time during the first home match of each calendar month.

But this is sports training with a difference, as it is likely to involve drinking large quantities of beer and eating pasties, pies and chips in the run-up to the actual competition. Bath Rugby has at last been advised that the Charity Commission has accepted the recommendation of the Recreation Ground Trustees to grant the East Stand extension for next season.
The Club is now able to launch its season ticket campaign. The development project, which is the Option 2 Scheme, needs to start immediately to ensure that there are no problems with the East Stand again next year.
You may have seen the following information posted on the Bath Rugby website:
"We have been advised today that the Charity Commission has asked for more information from the Recreation Ground Trustees before they will approve the Trustees’ recommendation to grant Bath Rugby the lease extension for the Helphire (East) Stand for next season.
"We understand that the information will be supplied from the Trustees by return and therefore hope that a positive decision will be forthcoming from the Charity Commission within the next few days."
We all hope that the campaigning efforts made by so many of us will bear fruit.
The BRSC will be running a coach to Stradey Park on 25th August - KO 17:30.

A very positive meeting, whereby Bath Rugby's 'Option 2' headed the poll. The following are the proposals to be put to the Charity Commission and a final decision is to be given by Tuesday, 12th June 2007:
STRATEGIC REVIEW REPORT (Report 9).
RESOLVED that the Trust Board
(1) Accepts Senior Counsel’s advice concerning the ownership of the Leisure Centre and car park and acknowledges that it is indeed owned by the Trust having been provided as a gift by the Council;
(2) Requests that Bath and North East Somerset Council confirm that the Leisure Centre was provided for the Trust as a gift;
(3) Requests that the Council further agrees that the net operating loss emanating from the gift of the Leisure Centre and car park to the Trust is financed as a further gift by the Council for the remainder of the life of the present building;
(4) Rescinds its previous decision to dispose of the Leisure Centre and car park by sale to the Council;
(5) Agrees the proposals contained in Option 2 as the preferred direction of travel for the future of the Recreation Ground Trust and instructs officers to notify the Charity Commission of its decision;
(6) Instructs officers of the Trust to arrange an urgent meeting with the Charity Commission to discuss this decision with a view to moving the preferred solution forward in the most expeditious way;
(7) Instructs officers of the Trust to inform the Commission that it will consider the future trusteeship arrangements for the Trust when a way forward has been agreed in principle;
(8) Requests the Charity Commision to make a scheme to deliver the following:
(a) The regularisation of the Leisure Centre to allow it to remain on the Recreation Ground and allow its reconstruction from time to time to be determined by the Trust Board or until such time that the Trust Board determines that it no longer wishes to accommodate a leisure centre on the Recreation Ground;
(b) The facility to dispose of further land to Bath Rugby Club in furtherance of the Trust’s proposals subject to agreement of future leases and significant further charitable benefits to be agreed in conjunction with the Charity Commission;
(c) Redefinition of the objects of the Trust in accordance with Section 13(1)(e)(iii) of the 1993 Act on the grounds that the original purposes in whole or in part have, since they were laid down, ceased … to provide a suitable and effective method of using the property available by virtue of the gift, regard being had to the spirit of the gift and as based on the Recreational Charities Act 1958 to deliver a modern fit for purpose Recreational Trust and as described in the report;
(d) Provision of express powers to be included within the objects to enable the hiring and/or disposal of property, application and income of capital and extension of trusteeship and any other provisions as necessary to facilitate the modern operation of a Recreational Trust;
(e) Setting out trusteeship arrangements, following further consideration by the Trust Board;
(9) Instruct officers of the Trust to invite proposals for the future of the land occupied by the Rugby Club, and any extension required; and
(10) Will consider a further report to the Trust Board following the outcome of discussions and decisions of the Charity Commission.
We hope that these resolutions will finally see the long-awaited enhancement of the facilities at the Rec. However, we should not get too carried away - these are all subject to Planning permissions!

The BRSC was articulating the views of supporters heard over a number of years and not merely those expressed following the ECC Final. There was nothing in the article that was not already in the public domain.
The BRSC will continue to work closely with the Club on behalf of the supporters and assist in every way possible to achieve the long-awaited goal of being able to improve the facilities at the Rec.
Much has been said on the subject on other sites already but the BRSC should like to add its support to the comments made by the players.
No one should doubt the players' efforts on Saturday, nor doubt that they were as 'gutted' as the rest of us with the result.
We have worked hard behind the scenes to assist the Club in every way possible but it is a two-way street and it is time the Club listened to its players and supporters.
Success breeds success - let's get back to being a successful Club.

I have been bowled over by the number of fans that travel away - a lasting memory is of 2,000 Bath fans standing in the rain at Connacht 2 hours before the game!
Sadly, I have had to step down as Team Manager after only 7 months - we thought it was a job that could be done part time but it is very clear the players need a full timer.
Please enjoy the day on Saturday - let's hopefully celebrate a great win - the players will return to the Clubhouse for a drink at about 11pm, so we will see you then.

It is with much sadness we advise that Richard passed away this morning, Wednesday, 16th May, at the RUH. Richard had been ill since the end of December and had spent much of the last few months in Haygarth Ward.
Richard was a Past Player and a stalwart Bath Rugby supporter for many years.
Our deepest sympathies go to Sue, Robert and Jenny.
The funeral is to be held at the West Wiltshire Crematorium, Devizes Road, Semington, at 3.00pm on Thursday, 24th May 2007. All welcome. Donations, in lieu of floral tributes, to Dorothy House.
Both Elgar Jenkins and Jonathan Gay have lost their seats. This means that only Gerry Curran remains as an elected Trustee. B&NES has yet to sort itself out and Bath Rugby is once again in limbo.

It has been confirmed that the final of the European Challenge Cup between Bath and ASM Clermont Auvergne will be played at the Stoop, Twickenham, on Saturday 19th May at 17:30.
Tickets are priced at £14, £18 and £28 with concessions available at £9, £12 and £18 for under 16s, students and over 65s. Tickets will be distributed through Bath Rugby and ASM Clermont Auvergne. Full details will be released shortly.
The Supporters' Club is proud to be the chief sponsor of the Bath Rugby Community Foundation, raising funds through matchday shirt raffles and the ‘2 in a Bath’ competition. On Saturday, 7th April, Doug Gibbs handed a cheque to the value of £11,650 to the Foundation’s main man, Jimmy Deane.
Despite so much happening on the pitch at half-time on Saturday, 7th April, the supporters did indeed say their own farewell to Matt Perry.

A highly successful Race Night was held in the Illustrious Suite of the Hampton Stand ohn Friday night.
Despite slightly cramped conditions, the atmosphere was excellent and all the punters joined into the swim of things. We were pleased to have Matt Perry as the Guest of Honour and he was ably supported by players Matt Banahan, Chris Goodman and George Hughes, who took it in turns to pick the reels and present the prizes to the winning owners.
Thanks to them and special thanks to Jan and Mike Warrington for their great organisation; to Jan Gregory who produced all the race cards and printed matter; to Steve the compere and to all those who helped with the tote.
A total of £600 was raised for Matt Perry's chosen charity, the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

The third annual Moz Memorial Match at the Rec on Saturday, 7th April, between Bath and Bristol rugby supporters, has raised its target of £4,000, which means that the three matches played so far have raised in excess of £20,000 for Medecins sans Frontieres.
Played in the Easter sunshine in front of an enthusiastic crowd, which included former England Rugby Coach, Andy Robinson, the game was an exciting battle between two well-matched teams, where the final result of Bath 38 - Bristol 53 was still in doubt until the last few minutes.
Congratulations to all who participated, both on the pitch and rattling the buckets. Particular mention must go to Jim Carter and Matt Clark, who have done their friend proud by organising an event which ensures that Tim 'Moz' Morris is not forgotten and brings together two clubs with a proud history of playing tough, uncompromising derby matches.

Do not forget that, after the final whistle of the Bath-Gloucester game this afternoon, the Bath supporters take on the Bristol supporters in the third running of this annual fixture in memory of Tim "Moz" Morris.
All proceeds from this match go to Medecins sans Frontieres - £16,000 has been raised to date and the organisers are hopeful that the £20,000 mark will be passed today.
The Supporters' Club will be organising coaches to Euro Challenge Cup Semi Final on 22 April.
As kick-off is at 12.30pm, coaches will be leaving Great Pulteney Street at 07:30 on Sunday morning.

Pitch up as normal (doors and bar open at 7pm for a 7.30 start) but you will be guided under the East/Helphire Stand to the Hampton Stand; up two flights of stairs to the revised venue.

The meeting was called, primarily, to discuss, at Agenda Item 7, the Strategic Review - Public Consultation Report; Item 8 - The Recreation Ground, Bath - Land for East Stand - Bath Rugby.
The FOTR were out in force and, of the 8 who spoke, they were all singing from the same hymn sheet, calling for the resignation of the Trustees and for the meeting to be adjourned instantly, with proceedings to wait until after the local elections.
Bob Calleja used his 3-minute slot to advise that the Review had received overwhelming support for the Club to improve its facilities at the Rec and asked for permission to extend the lease on the temporary East Stand for a further year - to the end of season 2007/08.
Jeff Bishop presented the results of the Public Consultation Report and answered questions from the floor.
The three Trustees in charge of the Review passed the following recommendations:
1. Note the findings of the public consultation;
2. Authorise additional expenditure (funded via council loan) to clarify outstanding legal issues in relation to tenure, liability and risk of challenge, and the possibility of altering the terms of the Trust Deed (subject to a cap of £40,000);
3. Agree to meet with the Charity Commission to discuss further relevant issues.
The Trustees also passed in principle the following recommendations:
1. Consider whether, in principle, it is in the best interest of the Trust to grant a further lease to Bath Rugby plc of the land for the temporary east stand;
2. Authorise the Trust’s advisors to engage consultants to negotiate the rent payable in respect of the new lease;
3. Receive a further report at a future meeting on the outcome of the negotiations.
The actual agreement to extend the lease of the East Stand rests with the Charity Commission and the Trustees have recommended that a meeting to discuss this and the other matters should take place within the next two weeks.
We await the outcome of all deliberations with fingers firmly crossed.
This was, supposedly, a repeat of the 1996 Pilkington Cup Final, which Bath won thanks to Steve Lander awarding a penalty try in the dying moments.
This time around it was a Matt Perry/Leon Lloyd Testimonial match. Many Bath supporters stayed over in Leicester following the hard-fought loss in the Premiership to Leicester on Saturday, the 17th, to enjoy a 'fun game' on the Sunday. Unfortunately, the Tigers' supporters don't know the word 'fun' and howled support for players who had retired but a couple of years ago, compared with the majority of Bath players who retired shortly after 1996!
Needless to say, Bath lost (45-15) but we take our hats off to the players who turned up to be counted - and tortured: Shep, Dawsey, Russell Earnshaw, Eric Peters, John Hall, Charlie Harrison, Hollywood, Addie, Sleights, Audley Lumsden, JC et al, plus, of course, Pezza. Bath had a few Academy ringers but, try as they might, a blizzard and the Welford Road experience, with the likes of Back, Johnston and Healey, held the upper hand. Even S-Lander could not save the day this time.
However, well done, boys - the Bath supporters and the rest of the crowd of 8,237 salute you.

It has made an interesting read!
We have been aware of the facts, allegations and counter-allegations that have come to light during the course of the consultation process. We feel that Jeff Bishop has produced a very fair, informed and balanced report and we are pleased to note that the vast majority of those consulted have come down firmly in favour of Bath Rugby being able to remain on the Rec. Mr Bishop has rapped the knuckles of both ‘The Friends’ and, indeed the Lib Dems; he has described significant divides in terms of possible future solutions, which have generated ‘more heat than light.’ The BRSC has used a different cliché (on many occasions), in that other options entering the debate at a relatively late stage have merely served to ‘muddy the waters.’
However, we should be relieved that the recommendation would appear to be that Bath Rugby remains where it is and that the next major hurdles are the legal and planning aspects. There is a long way to go yet.
Immediately following on from this is Agenda Item 8 – Land for the East Stand, Bath Rugby: We know that the Club was unable to issue season tickets for the East/ Helphire Stand until August 2006, awaiting a decision on a further year’s lease. This put both the Club and the season ticket holders in an untenable situation. This lease is once again up for renewal. The papers in support of this Agenda item state, inter alia, that Bath Rugby has been ‘a good tenant’ and it is ‘therefore considered that it is in the interests of the Charity to grant Bath Rugby a further lease …’ Let us hope so!
The meeting takes place at 2.00pm this Friday, 23rd March 2007, at the Guildhall and is open to the public. Show your support and be there!
Tim Davies, Mark Wilson, Nigel Laughton and Simon Jones entertained a gathering of BRSC members at the Clubhouse with presentations on how the Club is funded (Tim); how the Club spends its money (Mark); how the Club deals with contracts and recruitment (Nigel) and the organisation involved with getting the players to be in the right place at the right time (Simon)!
For those who attended, we hope you found it interesting and informative; to those of you who did not attend, you missed a good evening.
What was evident from the various discussions was the over-riding importance of Bath Rugby being able to stay at the Rec and we can all say 'Amen' to that!

Worcester Supporters' Club have invited Bath supporters to join them for a drink in their Supporters' Club Bar at Sixways, this coming Saturday. The Bar is situated at the south end of the East Stand. The bar will certainly be open by the time the gates open before the game!
As it is Tony Windo's Testimonial Year, there will be a Q&A session involving Tony and another Worcester player, Matt Powell, as well as Bath's Danny Grewcock. Worcester are still hoping that Matt Perry may also be available to join the panel.
This will be a post-match session, which is unlikely to commence until approximately an hour and a half after the final whistle. Although the coach travellers will be unable to stay for the event, it is hoped that there will be a number of Bath supporters still at the ground, who will give the Bath boys plenty of encouragement.
Somewhat belated thanks to our panel of Steve Meehan, Mark Bakewell, Brad Davies and Geoff Clark (Head of Sports Medicine).
Approximately 70 members and non-members of the BRSC arrived at the Clubhouse last week to ask the coaching panel some searching questions regarding the season so far; the inconsistencies in the home and away games; the selection and, of course, the vexed question of contracts for Bath's current half-backs.
Whilst Steve, specifically, was not prepared to discuss individuals and their contracts and possible arrivals and departures, in fairness to those concerned, he did endeavour to put minds at rest over Bath's current position in the League.
Geoff Clark gave an insight into some of the injuries sustained by various members of the squad and the reasons why they should have occurred.
Although a lot of questions remained unanswered, there was a free flowing discussion throughout the evening, which proved to be thoroughly worthwhile.
Do not forget, it is the turn of the Bath Execs to be quizzed on the evening of Wednesday, 14th March; so come along and have your questions answered about the way your favourite Club is being run.
We are hoping to run another coach for the Leicester/Bath game on Saturday, 17 March. This is, of course, subject to numbers!

From the KES website - Announcement for Lang Jones
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Lang Jones passed away in the early hours of Saturday, 3rd February, following a heart attack. He had been staying the night in London after hosting the Old Edwardians' Dinner. Our thoughts are with his wife Sue, son David and daughter Annabel.
The contribution Lang made to King Edward's School during his forty years, which continued into his retirement, is incalcuable. His loyalty, warmth and spirited sense of humour stretched far and wide and he will be missed by many generations of pupils, staff and friends in the King Edward's community and the City of Bath.
A memorial service will be held at Bath Abbey on Friday, 16th February at 2.30pm. Everyone attending the service are welcome to come to King Edward's Senior School after the service for refreshments in the Rutherford Sports Hall.
The BRSC would like to add their sincere condolences to the family for their sad loss.
On behalf of the BRSC, we should like to send our condolences to Tom Smith's family.

The BRSC held their normal shirt raffle at the Montpellier game on Saturday, 20th January. The winning ticket, drawn by Jon Allen, was a yellow ticket with just the name "Barney" printed on the back.
As no contact number was included, would Barney please contact Simon Clark or Hilary Weale at Bath Rugby on 01225 325200. We believe the ticket was sold in the Hampton Stand and Barney will need to decide which player he wishes to have sign his new shirt.

First, belated good wishes to everyone for a very Merry Christmas (despite the injury to poor Jon Dawson, Sale on Friday night was an excellent start!).
We have forwarded our congratulations on behalf of the BRSC to Steve Meehan in his now confirmed role as Bath Head Coach. Well done, Steve.
Bad luck to the boys at Ashton Gate on the 27th. Can't start celebrating the New Year early, after all.

Bath's friendship with Brive continues, as their supporters sign the petition and put up a poster on the Supporters' Bar windows.
The BRSC has already received an electronic version of this questionnaire, having been included amongst the main stakeholders in the Recreation Ground. This will be completed, keeping in mind the aim of the 'Support Bath Rugby to enhance their facilities on their part of the Rec' petition, which has been signed by over 20,000 people.

Yesterday, Saturday, 18th November 2006, we just managed to creep over the 20,000 signature mark. The timing of the opening of the gates; the England kick-off and the Bath/Bristol kick-off did not do a lot to help the cause (nor did the result) but we still managed to get past 20,000.

... but we don't want to stop there. The 'Keep Rugby at the Rec' petition campaign has now reached 19,600 signatures.

To celebrate this milestone, the BRSC will be holding its 10th birthday party in the Clubhouse on Friday, 19th January 2007 (the day before the Montpellier game, which, HOPEFULLY, will soon be confirmed for Saturday, the 20th).
Duncan Bell and his band will be starting the evening off with a bang, before a quieter interlude for eating, drinking and talking! BRSC member, Stephen Dalley Smith and his 'Band with No Name' will round off the evening.
A fork buffet supper will be served in the Premier Lounge. The bar will open at 7.30pm and, being a Friday night, there is a late licence until 1 o'clock.
Tickets will shortly be on sale at a price of £10 for BRSC members and £12.50 for non-members.
A most successful evening was held at the Clubhouse last night, when over 80 attendees had a chance to browse through and order goods displayed by Virgin Vie (cosmetics and jewellery) and Chocoholics.
Four players - Andy Williams, Matt Banahan (see Picture Gallery), Ian Davey and Dan Smith - were on hand to encourage the ladies to part with their money on the raffle; to become members of the Supporters' Club and to sign the 'Keep Rugby at the Rec' petition. Birthday boy, Ian Davey, presented the raffle prizes.
The whole evening raised over £200, which will go to the Pink Ribbon Foundation (Matt Perry's nominated charity). Thanks to all who gave of their time and to Penny Dale for organising the event.
No doubt, by now, most will have read the reports of the 'Breakfast' at the Bath Spa Hotel, hosted by John Inverdale on Tuesday morning, 7th November 2006.
Whilst there have been many calls for Bath Rugby to place the proposed development plan/s in the public domain, this is still not feasible until such time as the Strategic Review is under way. Therefore, please be patient.
Suffice to say that, at no stage, has the petition campaign been misleading and that the 'Keep Rugby at the Rec' headline has been an eye-catcher for the actual wording on the petition form, which is (rather long-windedly): Support Bath Rugby to enhance their (its) facilities on their (its) part of the Rec. The statement at the top of the petition form is: We, the undersigned, believe that the presence of Bath Rugby on the Recreation Ground is an integral part of the fabric of the City and contributes positively to the quality and variety of life in the Council district in many ways. We further believe that Bath Rugby should be enabled and encouraged to develop and improve the facilities on the Recreation Ground in a way that is not only to the benefit of the residents of Bath and the wider community but in keeping with the covenant in the Trust Deed and that any building should be of a quality and scale that complements and enhances its environment and the status of Bath as a World Heritage City.
Whilst the Bath Sport proposal of demolishing both the Pavilion and the Sports Centre in order to construct a multi-purpose stadium might be highly plausible, no business plan has been produced and there is no deliverable time scale. If Bath Rugby had 20 years in which to incorporate such a proposal, then this may be a viable proposition. However, the Club does not have such a luxury - season 2010/11 is the deadline!
We might further add that, during the signature gathering exercise, an A3 drawing of the Rec, showing the current (robust) lease, plus the temporary lease for the East Stand, has been on display. If this temporary extension is to be terraced, then there will be no occasion for Bath Rugby to exceed the current footprint.
Please therefore continue with your support to enable Bath Rugby to 'enhance its facilities at the Rec.'

A marvellous weekend was enjoyed by all those who travelled to southern France. The result certainly helped! Subject to weather conditions, this match is due to KO at 7.00pm on the Bath Rugby pitch at The Recreation Ground.
The visiting Cornwall Schools Squad consists of 25 players and 8 coaching staff. Much of the local organisation for the Development Weekend has been undertaken by Bath Youth Rugby.
The match is the highlight of the Cornwall Schools U16 Development Weekend and it is an immense challenge for the Bath Youth U16 to play County opposition.
Undoubtedly both Youth Squads (and their coaches) relish the opportunity to play on The Recreation Ground and look forward to local support.
Entry to the match is FREE!
For those Bath supporters travelling to Montpellier this weekend, we have received the following message from the Chairman of their supporters' club:
"We invite you and your supporters club on Friday, to meet us one hour before the game at Sabathé stadium, to share with you all a drink of welcome at our refreshment bar (inside stadium). The name is "Buvette des Supporters" (supporters bar) in front, near row H".
They are also prepared to show those interested around the old town on Saturday afternoon and have invited supporters to join them for dinner on Saturday evening at a cost of 15 Euors per head.
In view of the short notice, we have advised that the maxiumum number for dinner would be 50. Figures can be finalised with them on Friday.

A thoroughly entertaining evening was enjoyed by more than 20 teams of mixed ability at the Clubhouse on Wednesday night. Dave Stock tested the teams in his inimitable style and Matt Perry was on hand to present the prizes to the winning teams. See photographs in the Picture Gallery.
The BRSC are running another Blue Black & Pink Ladies night on Wednesday 15th November. Proceeds from the evening will be going to Matt Perry's nominated charity - The Pink Ribbon Foundation (Breast Cancer). See attached poster for details.
Thank you to all those who helped with signature gathering, both in the centre of town and then at the Rec, yesterday. We collected approximately 1,500 signatures, with a few of the forms still outstanding.
A truly marvellous effort by everyone involved.
Just to clarify, the final figure following the damp and blustery sojourn in Southgate on Thursday was approximately 350 signatures (not 250 as reported in the Chronicle). Thanks to Trevor, Helen, Darius, Debs, Trudy and Doug. Thanks also to to Gareth Delve and Aaron Jarvis, who joined us for an hour and a half and to Matt Banahan and Mike Mangeolles, who gave moral support!
For the Ospreys game tomorrow, volunteers should meet at 11:30am at the Boater beer garden to collect their clipbords and petitions. This will give an opportunity to canvass in town and at some of the other local hostelries, before going to the ground.

Collection of signatures is going well. Thank you to those who gathered around 200 signatures in Bristol (and thank you to the Bristol supporters). We gathered a further 300 signatures in the centre of Bath yesterday and shall be on the campaign trail again tomorrow, Thursday, in Southgate, Bath.
We do need more volunteers in the Bath area. Bath Rugby is YOUR Club, so don't sit back and leave it to others to ensure that Bath continues to play at the Recreation Ground with improved facilities for all.

Many thanks to those who braved the elements to collect signatures in the centre of Bath today (Jan and Mike, Jerry and Ula, Debby and Graham, Adrian and Suzanne, Giles, Glen, Kelvin, Bob). This was slightly last minute planning and, as such, there was no photo opportunity, even though Duncan Bell did come and join us.
We ended up doing a 4-hour stint (11:00am to 3:00pm) and gathered just over 1,000 signatures.
We need your help in raising awareness of the campaign for Bath to enhance its facilities on the Rec, so, if anyone has the time to join us on either a Tuesday or a Thursday in Bath or at BA1, BA2 or BA3 supermarkets (with their permission), please let Penny Brunton know. The BRSC has joined forces with ERE to support Bath Rugby in its endeavours to enhance its facilities on its part of the Recreation Ground in Bath. We believe that the Club is an integral part of the fabric of the City and contributes positively to the quality and variety of life in the Council district in many ways.
At the Worcester game on Saturday, we shall be organising a petition and we should be grateful, presuming you are in agreement with the above sentiments, if you would take time to add your signature. There will be volunteers, with clipboards, throughout the Ground.

Calling all fans of Bath Rugby; you will be aware that Bath Rugby Club is anxious to develop an enhanced arena on part of the Recreation Ground. A petition is being planned to keep Bath Rugby at the Rec and this you will be able to sign at the next few home games.
If you are a resident of B&NES, you can write to your local Councillor and, if any guidance is required, a suggested format is currently being prepared. We shall be providing a link to it within the next few days.

Following the AGM in the Clubhouse on Thursday evening, 24th August, fellow members of the new Committee elected Penny Brunton to take over from Dave White as Chairman; Amoree Radford is to be Honorary Treasurer, taking over from Mike Piggott. Craig Hodges and Georgina Barratt retain their positions as Honorary Secretary and Membership Secretary respectively.

Michael was a long time supporter of Bath Rugby, and member of the Supporters' Club from it's inception. He was a popular and memorable club member, and our sympathy goes out his family.
A dedication by his sons, Ian and Richard, has been received and is printed below.
"Our Dad, Michael Stockley, sadly died on 26 May 2006 at Dorothy House Hospice following a brave battle against a long term illness.
Dad had been attending the Recreation Ground regularly since 1977, when he first introduced us, his two sons, to Bath Rugby. We have all followed the club, both home and away, since then, enjoying much cup, league and European success.
Dad was a member of the Supporters Club and a season ticket holder in the Blackthorn Stand for many years. He loved his trips to Twickenham and into Europe.
Despite his illness, Dad continued to follow Bath Rugby as much as possible, his last game being the home defeat against Leicester on 25 March 2006. We're sure Dad will be missed by his many friends in the Blackthorn Stand and other parts of the ground."

The web site has been modified in its method of displaying News Items. In the past I have been deleting items on an arbitrary basis, after they have displayed for a few months.

The News Archive will display ALL items added to the web site. As this is only going live today, the archive only goes back to May 2005, and only shows those items currently available.
Representatives of BRSC had a meeting today with Bob Calleja to discuss the ongoing situation regarding Brian Ashton's reported move to a position with the new England coaching setup.
Although, for obvious reasons, nothing could be discussed regarding any negotiations currently going on between the Club and the RFU concerning his possible release, we were reliably informed that contingency plans were in place to cover all circumstances. In this respect a new forwards coach has already been signed, subject to completion of work permit requirements. Also, the Club are continually looking at all options in respect of the post of Head Coach. They did emphasize that they would not be panicked into making any appointment that would not be right for the Club, nor it's stability in the future.
The situation regarding the development of the Rec was also discussed. The possible plan for a 3-sided development taking in the Hampton Stand together with the area currently covered by the riverside stand and the clubhouse, has not been greeted unfavourably by the council. However, a decision awaited from the Charitable Trust regarding development of the Rec is the stumbling block at present. The Club have several architects working on proposals, but the current hold up on progress is now a legal issue rather than planning. Bob was informed that the Supporters' club were fully behind him and the Club on the above issues. He, in return, promised to keep us informed on all major issues affecting the supporters at the same time as they make press releases.

Its great to see that Bath Rugby supporters are starting young. he latest pictures in the gallery show young Noah (age 3 and a half months) on his latest trip to support Bath Rugby this time in San Sebastian. Young Noah was a big hit with Bath and Biarritz fans alike.
Noah's tour photographs show himself with Dad (Andy Rowlands) in the first photograph, a very friendly lady from Biarritz in photograph two, and finally in photograph three Noah is with his Mum (Zoe Rowland), Krys and Nigel Dodge, who are Zoe's parents.
Noah was unavailable for post match interviews, preferring to concentrate on looking cute and cool.

To all of our intrepid and long suffering coach travellers: Although the results haven't been as we had hoped our season has been very successful. We think we have probably created more noise on our away trips than we appear to be able to raise at The Rec. For those of you who were frustrated by the 'jobs worth' and who were unable to make the presentation on the pitch after the Worcester game, Dot presented Michael Foley with a Bath Aqua Glass Blue Rugby Ball engraved with the Club Logo and a message 'Thanks for the Memories' and on the plinth 'The Coach Travelling Gang' Jock also presented Michael with a shirt which many of you signed on the coach to Sale. Hopefully the photographs will show the presentations.
Once again our thanks for the fantastic effort in raising £1,820 from proceeds of our raffles. This sum was split between WOODEN SPOON and SPIRE. A cheque to Wooden Spoon was presented at half-time by Amoree. Unfortunately Spire were unable to attend on Saturday but they have sent their heartfelt thanks.
Finally a belated message to Bob Calleja who, as normal, when we have needed his help has never failed us. Thanks Bob!
Last but not least: Have a lovely summer and we will all meet again in August.

A big thank you to all who bought raffle tickets on Saturday, we made the grand total of £1,631 on the sale of tickets, £150 from coach Jan and Mike from coach raffles plus £19 from club funds making a grand total of £1,800 to be donated to the Matt Hampson Fund. Well done everybody and thank you again!
To all of our stewards who ran the coaches to the Millennium and to all of our travelling coach supporters who raised a magnificent sum of £634 in the raffles held on the respective coaches. This sum will be added to our running total of £949 and shared between our two charities Wooden Spoon and SPIRE at the end of the season. Finally thank you for making it a great day - pity about the result!

CITY CENTRE: Bath Rugby chief executive Bob Calleja will explain details of his plans to build a new stadium for his club at the city's Recreation Ground tonight. The meeting has been organised by the Pulteney Estate Residents Association (PERA) in response to the heated debate which surrounds the question of the club's future at the Rec. Mr Calleja will give a formal presentation on the plans, and then take part in a question and answer session. He wants to create a horseshoe-shaped arena to seat 15,000 people and upgrade facilities at the site. Some residents, and members of the Friends of Bath Recreation Ground pressure group, oppose any expansion of rugby on the Rec, while others are very supportive. PERA chairman Terry Gazzard organised the meeting to help dispel some of the myths and give people living nearby the chance to find out exactly what the club plans before making their minds up about it. Representatives of the BathSport consortium of businessmen, who have alternative plans for the Rec, are also expected to be present. The meeting will be held at Bath Rugby's clubhouse from 6pm.

Although we only intended to run three coaches to Cardiff we have now filled FOUR and are starting to take bookings for the fifth coach. HAPPY NEW YEAR
Attendance at this event was a little disappointing, although all those who did attend had an enjoyable evening which comprised of a question and answer session with Andy Dunne, David Bory and Peter Short who also helped David with his English. Everyone appeared to enjoy the food provided ( thanks to Dean and his staff ). Thank you to Andy, David and Peter for attending and all who supported this event.

There was a good attendance on the 17th Novemberÿat Ladies' Night raising funds for 'Elliie's Appeal' details of the final amount raised are not available as yet as there is still some more commission to come in but the evening appears to have been very successful. Our thanks go to Tom Cheeseman, Michael Stephenson, Andy Williams and Lee Best for attending, to Dean and his staff and last but not least to all of you who attended.
The Pultney Arms are offering supporters a special deal prior to, and following Saturday's match against Glasgow Warriors.
They are offering Heineken Cup Supporters a 'Pie and Pint' deal.
The 'pie' options are steak, chicken, and vegetable pies with chips and peas, and they also include the giant Yorkshire pudding with chips and gravy. The pint is Heineken or one of their cask ales.
Meal times are 12pm - 3pm and 5pm - 9pm. Price for the deal is £7 and requires presentation of your Supporter's Membership Card.

Prior to kick-off at the Leeds home match, the Supporters Club will be presenting John 'Knuckles' Connolly, with a silver salver, suitably engraved, in appreciation of his achievements as head coach.

The attached picture shows some of the guys from 1RGBWLI unit currently serving in Afghanistan. Special permission was given so that team tops could be worn while they watched the seasons first clash of the two West Country rugby heavyweights.
Once again bragging rights go the way of Bath, but its good to see its all smiles after the game and no hard feelings.

Membership numbers for the BRSC are getting close to 1000 for the 2005/2006 season. To give you all an added incentive to join or renew your membership, we have decided that the 1000th member for this season will get their membership for FREE. To give you some idea as to how close we are, the numbers currently stand at around 940, but new applications are arriving every day. So get those applicationÿforms in soon - IT COULD BE YOU!

As you may know, VisitScotland are sponsoring the Scottish teams in 2005, and they are trying to undertake some activities that will encourage as many people as possible to travel to Glasgow to see their teams compete, and in the process, to make a weekend of it!
They wondered if the supporters might be interested in finding out about what's going on in the city over the weekend of 16-18 December, when Bath play Glasgow at Hughenden. As it is close to Xmas, there are lots of things going on. See the attached link for some of the events

A word from the Membership Secretary. Well, several actually. Many thanks to the people who've helped me out with my queries and questions in the last few weeks, and thanks to the people with their own queries for being patient with me whilst I've been getting to grips with the job! All the applications and renewals that I've received so far have been dealt with and posted out, so if you haven't received your BRSC membership cards and badges by the end of September, please contact me, either by post or email and I will try and find out what has happened to them.
If you haven't renewed your membership yet, or are trying to decide whether or not to join, well, what are you waiting for? There is a fantastic range of discounts available around town with your BRSC membership card - your œ5 outlay could be reimbursed very quickly, for example, by buying a team shirt at the Bath Rugby Shop and using your BRSC membership card to get a discount. Great if you're not a season ticket holder!
